We invite you to join us in writing the next chapter in our story—one of hope, health, and lasting impact—by making a gift today.

Meeting the current and future healthcare needs of the people of the Greater Monadnock region is at the heart of Cheshire's "Our Community, Our Future" capital campaign. With your generosity, we can expand our capacity to deliver the best possible patient care in several critical areas. These include Cancer Care, Surgical Services and Advanced Outpatient Medicine.

With your help, we will address each of these areas, ensuring that you and your loved ones are able to receive the care you need, when and where you need it—close to home, here in our community.

Addressing our community's need for expanded cancer care

Image

Nearly half of all Americans will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Here in the Greater Monadnock region, the need for high-quality, accessible cancer care has never been greater. Cheshire will expand its Cancer Center by adding a second linear accelerator to meet the treatment needs of our patients. The second unit will allow us to:

  • Expand Access - Treat more patients, reduce wait times, and ensure no one has to travel far for lifesaving care.
  • Minimize Treatment Disruptions – Provide continuous care, preventing delays caused by required maintenance or potential repairs.
  • Keep Care Close to Home – Reduce the burden on patients already navigating the hardest fight of their lives.

Cheshire's existing linac is the most heavily utilized in the state, frequently operating beyond capacity to meet patient care needs. A second linac will eliminate potential treatment delays and allow Cheshire to continue providing cutting-edge cancer therapies right here in our community. Most importantly, it will give patients the best possible chance at recovery.

Creating a state-of-the-art Surgical Center at Cheshire

Cheshire must modernize and expand its surgical services in order to meet our community's increasing care needs. Cheshire’s current surgical space was built in 1973 as part of the “new” hospital and has not had a significant renovation or upgrade since then. The existing operating rooms average only 400 square feet—two-thirds the size of modern ORs.

Our operating spaces must grow in both size and number to better accommodate modern technology and equipment like robotics or in-room imaging equipment, and so that they have the critical ability to flex in emergent, life-threatening situations.

This expansion will transform our ability to deliver the most advanced surgical treatments and interventions for more patients than ever at all levels of care, from the most routine to the urgent, allowing our patients to remain close to their homes and families. This exceptional resource will also allow for more immediate scheduling, shorter recovery times, and more comfortable recovery spaces, while accommodating the most innovative surgical techniques and tools.

Expanding access to advanced outpatient medicine

Cheshire is focused on creating more access to advanced outpatient medicine. This includes the planning to fully utilize our West Campus building and reimagining Court Street Campus patient care areas, beginning with Gastroenterology and additional Cancer Care treatment spaces.

At present, more than 5,000 patients come to Cheshire Medical Center weekly to receive care. The Medical Center currently has more than 145 physicians and 99 associate providers representing more than 25 medical specialties. Continuing to care for our community into the future will require more resources, expansion of specialty clinical services and key investments.

Cheshire will also continue to focus on training a new generation of primary care physicians through its Family Medicine Residency Program. The Program's practice space was recently completed, and Cheshire welcomed its second class of residents in July 2025. This program is helping to address the critical shortage of primary care physicians in our rural region
