Tradition of community support

Community members and local businesses in our region have supported community health for all for decades through the act of giving. This tradition of collective generosity began in 1892 when the community understood the need for a dedicated medical facility and followed through by establishing Elliot City Hospital on lower Main Street. As the City of Keene continued to grow, so too did its healthcare needs, which eventually exceeded the space available at Elliot Community Hospital. In 1970, the community again stepped forward, leading the campaign to build on Court Street what we know today as Cheshire Medical Center.

Occasionally still referred to as “the new hospital,” Cheshire Medical Center is a nonprofit acute care facility that now serves the greater Monadnock region and is a member of Dartmouth Health. Cheshire Health Foundation is the nonprofit fundraising arm of Cheshire Medical Center. Through community generosity, the Foundation supports and advances Cheshire’s health and wellness mission. In March 2016 Cheshire Health Foundation established a dedicated board of trustees, which helps engage our community in supporting much-needed fundraising priorities for the Medical Center.

Commitment to our future

With the help and dedication of the community, Cheshire Health Foundation has raised funds in the last few years that have allowed the Medical Center to renovate and expand the Emergency Department and purchase new equipment for patient care. Recent purchases include the Masimo patient monitoring system, specialized patient care lifts to make moving patients safer, a state-of-the-art CT scanner, and a portable, digital X-ray machine. As of early 2020, Cheshire Health Foundation’s fundraising efforts have been focused on assisting the Medical Center with its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once again, our community has stepped forward to support Cheshire, powerfully demonstrating their commitment to ensuring exceptional local healthcare close to home.
