Mpox

Mpox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Mpox symptoms are generally mild and include a characteristic rash with or without a prodrome. The disease is rarely fatal.

Mpox can spread to anyone through close, personal, often skin-to-skin contact, including:

  • Direct contact with Mpox rash, scabs, or body fluids from a person with Mpox.
  • Touching objects, fabrics (clothing, bedding, or towels), and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox.
  • Contact with respiratory secretions.

If you believe you have come into contact with or contracted monkeypox:

  • Isolate at home and call the Dartmouth Health hotline for information at 603-650-1818.
  • Contact your primary care provider to determine next steps with respect to your care 603-354-5400.
  • Please do not visit Cheshire's emergency department without first speaking with your Primary Care Provider or Urgent Primary Care Visits at 603-354-5484.
