Family Medicine

I try to give patients the care I would want my family members to receive. I hope for a respectful dialogue that is directed by patients, allowing for them to obtain as much information as they can to make their decisions. I'm told by patients that I’m thorough and easy to talk to. I try to reserve any judgment or assumptions because that doesn't help anybody. I will go to bat for patients, assuring that they get what they need, as that is what brought me to healthcare.

When I was 19, my father was involved in a workplace explosion, and he was hospitalized for 6 months. I was taking college courses, and I chose human anatomy and physiology because I wanted to understand what was happening with him. I was also impressed with the dedication, compassion and intellect of his care team, and it just spiraled from there. I'm a first-generation college graduate, so I wasn’t bred to be a provider like I am. My path was not direct, and I bring a lot of life experiences to the table, including travel experiences like backpacking in the Amazon.

I'm big on prevention, and on sharing with patients what they could do outside of medications. It’s gratifying when they can make lifestyle changes and they come back, and they're excited to see the improvement. I like these small victories when a patient does well or feels empowered, or makes a shift, and the excitement and pride the patients feel with those. That's what keeps me going.
