The funding our rehabilitation department received will benefit our staff and patients in various and vital ways.

Dartmouth Health’s Cheshire Medical Center has received $750,000 from over $103 million awarded across New Hampshire from congressionally directed funding. U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) secured the funding in late March as part of the final government funding package for fiscal year 2024. Overall, Dartmouth Health received $3,092,000. The grant will allow Cheshire to purchase medical devices with robotic technology for therapy services in both Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation.

“We are thrilled to bring innovative technology to the already high-level clinical care our rehabilitation team members provide our patients,” said Cheshire’s chief nursing officer Anne E.Tyrol, MHA, MSN, RN, CEN, CENP. “The initiative to secure the funding first began when Kelli-Ann M. Abbott, DPT, PT, director of rehabilitation services, and Haley P. Bordner, OTR/L, ATP, attended a robotics symposium at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia. The funding our rehabilitation department received will benefit our staff and patients in various and vital ways. This is just one of the many ways Kelli and her team bring exemplary care to our rehab patients.”

Abbott and Bordner wrote and submitted a grant proposal to the Department of Health and Human Services to acquire $750,000 for new robotic technology, which will arrive sometime after July when the next fiscal year begins. They contacted Shaheen’s office, who is a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee and chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee of Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies, to help advocate on Cheshire’s behalf. In addition to Shaheen, Cheshire’s support was endorsed by New Hampshire state Sen. Donovan Fenton (D-Keene); former Mayor George Hansel (R-Keene); and Gabe Below, vice president of Washington, D.C.-based government funding and government relations consultancy firm LNE Group.

“I want to thank Sen. Shaheen on behalf of Cheshire for helping to secure this funding. These funds will greatly help us in our mission to continually improve the world-class care we provide our communities and to be an employer of choice in the Granite State,” Abbott said. “Our inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation teams are committed to providing exceptional care to our community. People usually don’t plan for what will happen if they have an illness or accident and need rehabilitation. We want people to know that in the event you need it, you can stay close to home in Cheshire’s acute inpatient rehabilitation facility, where experts can help you achieve your goals after a major health event by providing physical rehabilitative care within a hospital setting. Additionally, our outpatient rehabilitation team provides physical, occupational and speech language therapy services for a wide variety of diagnoses, disorders and conditions.”
