Cheshire Medical Center's community health programs help increase public access to wellness education, helping members of our community live well-balanced lives. We take pride in offering a robust selection of programs that foster community connection, education and overall well-being.
This fall and winter, we are offering a variety of public classes, a majority of which are free. Registration is required by the evening before the class.
Here is what is available this October:
Introduction to Mindfulness (free)
When: Thursday, Oct. 3, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Where: North Conference Room 1 at Cheshire Medical Center’s main campus, 580 Court St.
What: The initial session will teach participants about the basics of mindfulness and introduce them to the 8-week Mind Full to Mindful program, aimed at helping people build a sustainable mindfulness practice.
Presenter: Jennifer Begley, a positive psychology consultant and practitioner

Management of Aggressive Behavior Training (MOAB) (free)
When: Thursday, Oct. 10, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where: North Conference Rooms 1 & 2 at Cheshire Medical Center’s main campus, 580 Court St.
What: MOAB presents principles, techniques and skills for recognizing, reducing and managing violent and aggressive behavior. This training is open to anyone who is looking to learn how to avoid physical confrontation and manage aggressive behavior humanely.

Senior Sneakers (free)
When: Thursday, October 17, 2024
Where: North Conference Room 1 at Cheshire Medical Center’s main campus, 580 Court St.
What: This fitness program for beginners and aging adults combines standing and sitting exercises. Anyone who is searching for a new type of exercise — whether you are already active or just starting out — can benefit from Senior Sneakers.
Presenter: Gretchen Nadeau, a group exercise and personal training instructor for over 30 years.

American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid Training ($20 fee)
When: Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: North Conference Rooms 1 & 2 at Cheshire Medical Center’s main campus, 580 Court St.
What: This course covers administering chest compressions, rescue breaths, AED use and choking emergencies. It also covers the basics of respiratory and cardiac systems, recognizing cardiac arrest, assessing unresponsive individuals and pediatric CPR. Upon completion, participants will earn a two-year American Red Cross certification.
Presenter: Ida Daley and Adam Sidelinger, American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED instructors.
This is the last training being offered until spring 2025.
